Full course description

In this course, we tackle some difficult topics regarding children and families receiving palliative care. They include working within the context of ongoing suffering in a way that embraces self-awareness to ensure appropriate and effective support for those who are suffering; recognizing grieving styles and helping families to reconcile individual differences in grieving after a child has died; caring for patients and families with unique needs—including parents who are also stepparents, LGBTQ, single, nonmarried partners of parents, foster parents, grandparents, and grandparents in a parenting role; and empowering patients and families as active participants on the care team, providing needed support to address issues related to quality of life, decision making, and care planning for future needs.
